How to rock the mic at your wedding.
Feeling nervous about using a microphone during your wedding ceremony?
You are not alone.
For many people, their wedding will be the first time they have ever had to speak into a microphone. However with a bit of preparation, no one will be able to tell that you are a microphone novice. Here are my top tips on how to confidently use a microphone.
Before you and your guests arrive at the ceremony, I’ll do a sound check to ensure that the levels are suitable for your venue. That way when you pick up the mic, you know that it’s all good to go.
When it comes time for your vows, I’ll pass you a handheld microphone and your vows printed out in my Vow Card Holders. No one needs to have the stress of trying to remember your vows by heart! The microphone will be on, so one less thing for you to worry about
Hold the mic so your whole face is visible. There’s no need to hold it horizontal to your face like a rapper- you want to point it at your chin, aiming slightly away from your face so the base of the microphone is pointing away from you.
Closer is always better. If you hold the microphone too far away from your mouth, Aunty Maud in the back won’t be able to hear you. Best practice is to hold it no more than 10cms from your mouth.
If you are someone who talks with your hands, use the hand that isn’t holding the microphone! Your voice will fade in and out if you move the mic away from your mouth!
Speak with a strong, clear, voice. You don’t need to yell, but don’t whisper either.
And finally assume the microphone is always on!
